Earn Your Degree In Accounting (BSBA)

Accounting, known as "The Language of Business,” is the process of measuring results of an organization and communicating those results to investors, creditors, and management. Other aspects of accounting include tax compliance and planning, providing assurance on financial statements and IT systems, advising on technology and IT issues, designing and implementing business processes, and assisting in mergers and acquisitions.  Our program is dedicated to setting up graduates for success in their careers. We also provide students the opportunity to participate in many professional development events delivered by accounting and business professionals and in our accounting clubs, Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) and the Center for the Public Trust (CPT). In addition, we highly encourage students to complete an accounting internship during their academic studies.  Our students have completed internships with well-known accounting firms such as Horne LLP, KPMG, PwC, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, Carr, Riggs & Ingram, Haddox Reid, Postlethwaite & Netterville, TMH, and GranthamPoole and with companies such as Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Wayne Sanderson, Cooperative Energy, and the Beau Rivage.

Students are encouraged to consider participating in Study Abroad programs including British Studies, Italian Studies, or Asian Studies. Many of our students have been awarded scholarships from alumni, corporations, the Mississippi Society of Certified Public Accountants (MSCPA), the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), and the AICPA Legacy Scholarship.

The School of Accountancy is separately accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).

Professional Licensure Disclosure

To sit for the CPA exam, you must have either (1) 150 hours of college credit upon completing an undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting, or (2) have completed the Master of Professional Accountancy (MPA) degree. Please refer to State Board of Public Accountancy website for the particular state you would be practicing in for more information.

We have been unable to determine if completion of the undergraduate degree plus additional credit hours to reach the number of credit hours required in each state (i.e. typically 150) would allow an individual to become licensed in any of the other 49 US states or U.S. protectorates.

A list of state professional licensing boards can be found at http://nasba.org/stateboards/
